2014--Day 0
Day 0
A rather humid, unstable day in Rochester made for a potentially tricky travel day, with scattered showers and thunder around. Think one of the storms had a beaver tail (see photo), south and west of Brockport. Got to see some beautiful rainshafts from the airport, I'm guessing to our west. Nothing like a starting delay, but only an hour, so all things considered...
Relatively easy flight, aside from some bumps from what looked like pretty decent convection from flight level. In fact, seat belts the whole way, and a 'positive' landing at Midway (read: loud thump). This prompted a 'We're here' from the lead Southwest flight attendant, followed by much laughter from the passengers who not seconds earlier were looking nervously for the hole in the floor.
Delayed out of Chicago (much like everyone traveling by air today), but not as long as previously advertised, so kudos SWA. Hoping for an easy ride to Denver, where I will meet with the good doctor (Pereira, driving up from Phoenix). If all goes according to Hoyle, we should be arriving at nearly the same time. Of course, the mere act of committing those words to electrons curses it to Travelers' hell--yay.
The layover in MDW was just long enough to empty and refill, so to speak. Walking by Game 4, the Rangers were up 1-0 against LA, but I cannot imagine that will hold up. I'm guessing that by the time I land in Denver the visitors' locker room at Madison Square Garden will be drenched in champagne. (I was wrong.)
On a completely different note, this is the first time I've ever been on such an empty flight to Denver. I have the entire row to myself--I'm making 26A-F my bitch. It's also a relatively new plane. The cabin is dark except for reading lights and this really cool blue mood lighting--it feels like I'm flying in the Playboy mansion grotto, with the scantily clad women replaced by peanuts and turbulence.
Early out of Chicago we flew through some low-mid level clouds that covered most of the sky. Once we got above them It looked like a very comfy mattress.
Bumpy ride between Midway and Denver, but no real clouds to speak of. It's clear air turbulence (CAT). I wonder if we're in the vicinity of the jet stream.
After negotiating the warzone that is the west side of Denver International Airport, I caught the shuttle to the hotel, where Gustavo had arrived not 5 minutes earlier. Let's hope the rest of the chase is this serendipidous. 'Night from Denver.
